Welcome to Maize & Blue Deli, a beloved gem located at 1329 S University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI. Nestled in the heart of the University of Michigan's campus, this deli expertly marries tradition with taste, offering a delightful array of sandwiches, salads, and more that are sure to satisfy any craving.
As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I couldn't help but feel the vibrancy of this place upon entering. The warm atmosphere, adorned with memorabilia celebrating U of M athletics, instantly makes you feel at home. Whether you’re a student, a local, or an excited visitor, you’ll find a welcoming vibe that encourages you to linger and enjoy.
One cannot speak of Maize & Blue Deli without mentioning their star attraction: the corned beef sandwiches. The #10 T's Sweeping Style is a showstopper, featuring mouthwatering corned beef layered with Swiss cheese, a perfectly fried egg, and a drizzle of Russian dressing, all sandwiched between grilled sourdough rye. For those seeking a cheesy indulgence, try Amanda's Moonlight, packed with jarlsberg and cheddar cheese that complements the corned beef beautifully. Each sandwich is not only hearty but crafted with a generous amount of fresh ingredients, ensuring every bite is a flavorful experience.
If you're in the mood for something lighter, Maize & Blue Deli excels in their salad offerings. The Chef Salad, brimming with turkey, Swiss cheese, and a colorful mix of vegetables, is both nutritious and satisfying. For veggie lovers, the #84 Veggie Sandwich, filled with crumbled feta and a fresh medley of veggies, is a stellar choice — vibrant and full of life.
Reviews speak volumes about this deli’s reputation. Customers rave about the quality and quantity of the dishes, with many emphasizing the standout gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. Jorge Contreras shared, “The sandwich is packed so you will not go hungry,” a sentiment echoed by many who’ve indulged at Maize & Blue Deli.
While the food steals the show, it’s the family-owned charm that keeps patrons returning. With each meal, you’ll experience a level of care and dedication that speaks to the deli's commitment to excellence. And as Jonathan notes, “They care about quality, quantity, and service,” something that is palpably evident in every visit.

“ Hands down my favorite goto for lunch! I work in downtown a2, and sadly have celiac disease maize blue is the ONLY place Ive ever been able to order from and not have any cross contamination issues or order mishaps. The sandwiches, even salads, are always jam packed with ingredients, and tastes phenomenal. The gluten free challah is so great! Thank yall for making sure Im always able to have a great meal with you ”
“ Ok. Ill admit my bias upfront. Ive been a fan of U of M since I was 12 yrs old. To find myself in The Holy Land, eating at a place named after the schools colors on a beautiful sunny day no less, might, just maybe, have influenced my thinking. Now you know. And I was wearing a Michigan shirt at the time. I was actually directed to the place by a sorority girl I gave a ride to. Thank you, Rachel! The woman behind the counter seemed bored, her interactions with myself others seemed forced. There is outside seating but I stayed inside where it was very quiet. A TV in the corner, with ESPN on, was easily listened to 10 ft. away. The menu is massive! My 8 was fabulous though it took a bit longer to get than I expected. But it was worth the wait. I can definitely see coming back should the forces of nature deem it good. Assuming I can find parking. ”
“ I had 22 sandwich with an order of fries did not expect to receive an entire tray, Fanta one of the best chocolate cookies Ive ever had. I definitely recommend to stop by if you get a chance. The sandwich is packed so you will not go hungry. I also suggest to split fries if you happen to order some. The workers were really nice and very quick coming out with the food. ”
“ Wheres Bo is probably my 3 sons and my favorite sandwich! Its always a great experience anytime we go usually before basketball or hockey games! ”
“ Just a great sandwich shop. I typically go with a Wheres Bo but I can say I have tried many others and they all are equally delicious. Family owned and operated, which means they care about quality, quantity, and service and you can surely tell. Store is filled with cool memorabilia and signatures of countless Univ of Michigan athletes. Parking can be tough with it being on the heart of campus so plan accordingly if trying to pick up an order. ”
“ Our favorite place in Ann Arbor to eat whenever we are in town. The boys truly take pride in every detail of their food, service, business. The addition of the tvs is amazing! The place looks fabulous. As always, your aboveandbeyond efforts are appreciated! Go Blue! ”
“ Great food, great service, loved the welcoming atmosphere. We ordered a 2, 40 and a Greek salad, and the food was fresh and tasty! Would recommend for any of my friends and family. ”
“ I got the summers delight and it is massive and phenomenal! Food came out in mere minutes. The sandwich itself wasnt at all oily. The lettuce and tomato complement the cheese, mayo and roast beef well. The pickle on the side hit a craving I didnt know I had! Edit after finishing everything off, I got a cookie. It was perfectly crunchy yet gooey! ”
